Recently, Yuepu Music Space Summer Camp 2023, jointly organized by the Chen Yidan Foundation, Tencent Music for Nonprofit, and Tencent Charity, came to a successful conclusion with an online concert. Over 40 children from Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County in Sichuan Province completed a fun-filled five-day musical journey.
Yuepu Music Space, a project initiated by the Chen Yidan Foundation and Tencent Music Entertainment Group, serves as a comprehensive music charity base that integrates music education, cultural heritage, and music exchange. Since its inception, it has continuously enriched music and art education, as well as the learning and inheritance of ethnic culture, promoting diversified development in quality education.
Since 2019, Yuepu Music Space has opened up a broader musical world for children. This year, the summer camp, held as scheduled in August, introduced rich and diverse musical learning experiences, supported by young musical theater actors, the teenLAB Youth Development Project, and Tencent Music Entertainment volunteers. These contributors provided diverse and professional musical learning experiences, combining music education with personal development to assist the comprehensive and personalized growth of children.
Introducing Musical Theater Courses for a Rich Musical Learning Experience
To better impart quality musical knowledge to the children, teenLAB designed and organized a series of professional courses and engaging experiences, guiding the children step-by-step into the vast world of music. This year's summer camp creatively introduced six major courses: Music Theory, General Literacy, Original Practice, Rhythm Composition, Choral Arts, and Musical Theater Performance. These courses were complemented by educational games, sparking the children's interest and expanding their musical horizons.
Notably, this year’s summer camp introduced musical theater courses, allowing the children to learn about and experience a form of musical expression they had never encountered before. Four young musical theater actors, Ding Xingchen, Gao Yuchen, Guan Zhonghao, and Chen Tian, combined musical theater theory with their own performance experiences, teaching the basics of acting, singing, and dancing, as well as stage design and practical performance, providing fresh and engaging musical learning experiences.
At the same time, the summer camp also specially customized game experiences that combine Qiang ethnic culture elements and the popular immersive script format. These activities enhanced the children’s interest in and understanding of Qiang culture, instilling in them a sense of mission to preserve and promote their heritage. The games also helped improve the children’s concentration, hands-on skills, teamwork, and so on.
Appearing in a Charity Music Concert, Delivering Blessings from Afar
As one of the achievements of this year’s summer camp, the camp's theme song Hear the Sound from the Clouds, co-created by teenLAB and the children, was recently released on major music platforms under Tencent Music Entertainment Group.
In conjunction with this year's "99 Giving Day," the summer camp also organized the Yuepu Music Space Charity Concert 2023. The nearly one-hour online concert featured performances including instrument playing, choir singing, and musical theater, providing a platform for the children to showcase their musical learning achievements.
In addition to their growth in music, the children made new friends through music, learned to document the world through music, and enhanced their creativity, expressiveness, and self-confidence.
For the volunteers involved in the project, the summer camp also served as an opportunity for their own learning and growth. Their music knowledge and experience were shared and benefited more people. Additionally, through interactions with the children, the volunteers completed a journey of healing and self-discovery.
As Yuepu Music Space enters its fifth year, the Chen Yidan Foundation looks forward to continuing to collaborate with public welfare resources from all sectors of society, nurturing and loving the children in remote areas.
